What is a Men`s Group?

Men’s mental health has become a growing concern in Wales, where the impact of isolation and societal expectations continues to weigh heavily on men of all ages & from all backgrounds. Men's groups are supportive communities where men come together to share experiences, foster personal growth, and discuss various aspects of life in a safe and confidential environment.

The symbol of Resiliance & Perseverance?

The symbol is a reminder of the Hope, Inspiration, Perseverance and Resilience seen in survivors who can remain Optimistic in the face of Adversity,  a testament to the strength of the human spirit.

Men`s Groups

Purpose of Men's Groups?
Men's groups serve as a platform for men to connect, share their challenges, and support one another. They aim to create a space where men can express their emotions, discuss personal issues, and explore topics that may be difficult to address in other settings. These groups often focus on personal development, emotional well-being, and building meaningful relationships with other men.
Structure and Format:
Typically, men's groups consist of small groups of 5-10 men who meet regularly, either in person or online. The largest group by far within R.C.T is Pontypridd Men`s Shed with at least 80 members enjoying social activities over 3 different venues. Meetings can be structured around sharing personal updates, discussing specific topics, or engaging in activities that promote bonding and support. A facilitator usually guides the discussions, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to speak and feel comfortable.
Types of Men's Groups?

There are various types of men's groups, each with its own focus and approach:
Support Groups: These groups provide a safe space for men to discuss personal challenges, such as relationship issues, mental health struggles, or life transitions such as *Brothers in Arms Cymru*.
Therapeutic Groups: Led by trained professionals, these groups focus on emotional healing and self-awareness, helping men to express vulnerabilities and develop interpersonal skills. These include; *Happy Boots Horticultural therapy CIC* & *Reel Minds CIC
Interest-Based Groups: Some groups focus on specific interests, such as fatherhood, health, or professional development, allowing men to connect over shared experiences.
12-Step Groups: These groups are designed for men dealing with addiction or compulsive behaviours, providing a structured support system.

Men`s Health & Wellbeing Alliance:
Men’s groups across R.C.T are tackling the issue of men`s Health & Wellbeing, providing vital spaces for connection and support. These groups, such as *Andy’s Man Club Pontypridd*, *Pontypridd Men’s Shed*, and countless others, each offer unique ways for men to gather, connect, and openly share their experiences. Despite different approaches, they share a common belief: “connection is protection” for mental well-being.

In R.C.T men’s groups are adapting to local needs, from talking groups and activity-based meetups to outdoor adventures, all encouraging men to connect in ways that feel comfortable to them. By fostering environments where men feel safe to express themselves, these groups counteract the pressures to “tough it out” alone. Instead, they promote connection and understanding, which can be a critical antidote to isolation.

Human beings are inherently social, and for men, who may often feel pressure to shoulder burdens alone, isolation can be particularly damaging. These groups in Wales provide a sense of belonging and offer a space where vulnerability is respected and encouraged. Whether through conversation, shared activities, or simply showing up, these connections allow men to build resilience, find mutual support, and protect their mental health.

In the end, men’s groups across Wales highlight that connecting with others is essential, offering men the chance to lift each other up, redefine strength, and guard against the effects of isolation. Through community, men can build the support networks they need to thrive.
